Biology Week Thirteen (July 30): Vaccination and Public Health

Mandatory vaccinations are a very complicated and controversial topic. It brings up a lot of different perspectives on freedom to choose how one wants to treat their own bodies, and that of their children. However, the choice isn't restricted to affecting only the parents and their children, but that of the population as a whole. Questions arise such as exactly who gets to dictate which vaccinations are mandatory, and then going further into determining what are the effectiveness of each vaccination and exactly what are the risks in taking them. Exceptions are allowed in certain areas while they are banned in others. I think education is key in at least letting everyone have an informed decision rather than not having all of the information available. The troublesome part is that most studies and research is not readily understood by the general public, and there is so much "fake news" nowadays that finding valid and true sources are few and far in between.

My research topic expands on the relationship between Qi, intention, and biomagnetic energy. I chose this because I am a massage therapist and work very closely with these three components of a person, (granted we all work closely with these things on a daily basis, conscious or not) however I wanted to delve deeper into how deeply intertwined they are, and how they are extremely vital in our work as healers. We are constantly working with our intention and honing and developing that skill of body and mind awareness is so important for the effectiveness of our medicine. People are not like computers or inanimate objects. We are constantly changing, never the same from one moment to the next, and so as practitioners we have to adapt and change along with our clients. Just as we work out our physical muscles, we must practice letting go of distracting thoughts and empty our cups.

  1. It’s important to see the importance of being flexible in our approach to the human body. I like that you mentioned that we have to adapt and change with our clients. Our intentions are a key part of the effectiveness of our medicine.
